How To Trace The Source Of Ants In My House When They Seem To Be Coming Randomly From All Over The Place?

15 December 2009 275 views 4 Comments

Recently, there are these huge black ants (not the normal small red ant type) in my house… They are crawling about everywhere, although not many, they are annoying. I first spotted them in my room, loads of them but after cleaning up the room thoroughly, it went to other areas of the house and still refuse to leave even though there’s no food or anything sweet lying around and they don’t seem to be attracted to a single place.. Is there any way to trace the source of these ants? And then besides using pesticide, are there other ways to get rid of these ants or what?
because I live in an apartment and maybe the ants could have come from other units(where they just sprayed pesticide so the ants get chased to our unit? is this possible??)
AHH help with the ants… annoying me… thanks..

huge black ants sound like carpenter ants. they may have nested in the buildings wood frame. tracing them in an apartment is not something you can do. The owner needs to do this and do it before they cause serious structural damage to the building.
There are clear insecticides you can spray ito corners to help keep them out of your unit.
Usual treatment for carpenter ants is treating entry points and then eliminating conditions that made the building attractive to them. Carpenter ants do not eat wood, they nest in it. Wet wood is attractive to them because it is easier to hollow out.

they sound like carpenter ants…they are very annoying I called a local exterminator to get rid of them, they usually were found in the bathroom. I was told they are looking for moist wet places to get water from. Good luck:)

It’s absolutely possible they were “sprayed out” of their current home and are headed your way. Since you live in an apartment, have the landlord deal with the problem. That’s one of her/his responsibilities to the tenants.
